How do you replace the transmission oil filter on a cadillac catera 1999 ?

Remove the transmission pan.

I wont to get my transmission oil and filter change but I dont know if i should get it flush to because of the?

high miles I have on it my miles is 246,045. The transmission works good it dont slip or anything. Should I get flush or noI wont to get my transmission oil and filter change but I dont know if i should get it flush to because of the?
At that many miles I suspect that flushing the trans will not have a significant effect on it's life expectancy.

If you do decide to have it flushed, insist that they remove the pan and physically clean it and change the filter before performing the flushing operation - they will undoubtedly say that is not necessary - because dropping the pan and changing the filter takes longer and they get paid less for that part of the job, but it is the only way to remove metallic debris from the pan and filter assembly. Just as flushing the transmission is the only way to clean out and change the fluid which is trapped inside the torque converter.

Therefore to thoroughly clean the transmission both procedures must be performed.

And again there is no guarantee that the nearly worn out clutches will not fail the following week from simple wear. I think at this point I would save the money which you would spend on a flush and continue saving in the anticipation of a transmission replacement (or vehicle replacement ) in the future.

I wont to get my transmission oil and filter change but I dont know if i should get it flush to because of the?
New car dealerships and transmission shops in my area do not recommend complete flushing on any high mileage vehicles. Their reasoning is: During a high pressure flush the torque converter gets flushed as well as the valve body. The sump pan and transmission filter does not get changed! If any dirt particles lodge inside the valve body check balls, springs and passages you're screwed!

It's much safer to just have the sump pan dropped, cleaned and have the transmission filter replaced. I'm not making anything up, that's what I've been told.

However, a low mileage vehicle that doesn't toe anything with clean transmission fluid may be a good candidate for a flush. That's my reasoning.
Unless you have serviced the trans on a regular basis, say every 60k I would strongly advise you to have the service performed at a trans shop- it'll save you the tow bill if it doesn't move afterward. The oil and filter change are not going to remove all the fluid-3 to 4 QT.s will stay in the torque convertor. A flush renews all the fluid. At the mileage your talking about your fluid has clutch material in it, changing the viscosity. New fluid may cause internal bypass leaks in a worn trans. No pressure- no go
should leave it a lone.. with that many miles and it working ok then theres a chance it will not help it any to do it and more of a chance of making it slip or go out ive never had to flush or replace fluid and ive been driving 40 plus yrs and many of my cars have had over that and a few with over 400,000 best advice if its not broke dont fix it
You are faced with an interesting situation. It is possible that changing the fluid and flushing the transmission will cause it to start having problems. I have seen it go both ways and have personally experienced the good side. I would hesitate to recommend flushing it!
i never knew they flushed transmissions .if it works fine i suggest don;t do it. when they remove the oil pan you loose all the reserve in the transmission .that should be replaced with new fluid. but that is all the ';flushing'; i would do.
Avoid the flush. It can sometimes help but more often it dislodges dirt and stuff which end up causing damage to the transmission. You should get the fluid and the filter changed just no flush.

Does anyone know what a transmission oil cooler line is and where i can get two.?

its two lines that run from the side of your radiator and no one knows what im talking about. I have a saturn repair book and thats what it calls them. Do i have the name wrong?Does anyone know what a transmission oil cooler line is and where i can get two.?
These lines are usually specialized for the vehicle and in fairly low demand, so most parts houses will not stock them. Your best bet is to go to the dealer. It will cost a little more, but you won't have to drive all over town looking for them. You could also have a line custom made or go to a junk yard.Does anyone know what a transmission oil cooler line is and where i can get two.?
No, you aren't calling it the wrong name, you're just calling part departments that employ idiots! You should be able to get them from napa, auto zone, advance auto, or car quest BUT some of those types of parts of dealer available only. Maybe you should take the book down there and show them pictures or call and speak to the manager or shop foreman, they should be able to help you.
Auto transmissions have 2 trans. cooler lines. One to take the fluid in and one to take it out. They connect to the bottom of the cars radiator. If you get close to the bottom of the radiator... you should be able to see them very easily. They run in parallel back to the transmission. If they are leaking they can be cut and spliced with hoses and clamps. People do it all the time. They are not ((( high ))) pressure. But A suitable hose for such an application would still be required.
Rocky is partially correct. People do cut them and splice them, but he is wrong in saying that they are not pressure lines. They do have a certain amount of pressure in them and require pressure hose to be used when splicing them. Windshield washer hose, vacuum hose, and even some fuel hoses will just split apart as soon as the pressure hits them. It would be best to let a reliable mechanic do the repairs on the lines, because that way if he screws up, there will be a warranty to fix the problem caused by the mess-up.
You got the name right. The dealer dealer ';should'; know it. Anyway, there is nothing special about them and you can get them from a Transmission supplier, like this one.

http://fmsiinc.com/transmission-fuel.htm
Hi Gary, The trans, cooling lines go from the trans, to the bottom or side of the radiator(should be the only metal lines to the radiator) unless you have a oil cooler. you can get them at any auto parts store. good luck;)

I'M CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION OIL IN MY INBOARD BOAT AND IT SHOWS SIGNS OF RAIN WATER?

Some told me to fill with diesel then drain then fill with oil? necessary?I'M CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION OIL IN MY INBOARD BOAT AND IT SHOWS SIGNS OF RAIN WATER?
The best way is to change out oil cooler first; that is the main way water enters the tranny. Looks like a strawberry milkshake. Then change out fluid till it is clean again, with new trans fluid. This will take three or more changes; more if their is a reduction gear on the back end. If the tranny went under water, you would have a big mess in the bilge, probably a scum line from oil as to how high the water was. Then you need to change out any electrical parts that went under also. Like the starter, solenoids, ect. Good luck! Yes you do need to remove the water from the tranny, or there will not be proper lubrication to the parts inside, and will cause failure! If you find that it did sink, take to a shop, and file a insurance claim!I'M CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION OIL IN MY INBOARD BOAT AND IT SHOWS SIGNS OF RAIN WATER?
If water in the trans only 2 ways to enter trans went under water or trans cooler leaking%26gt; No luck with rain water or you left the fill plug out%26gt; And no diesel as it will not mix with the oil or fluid%26gt; If there was a lot of water than fix the leak drain flush with oil run drain fill with oil run and check for more water intrusion%26gt;

  • Can transmission oil burn out of my exhaust?

I have a 1994 Mx-3 and the tranny is leaking. that is one of the problems i now of, But there is also blue smoke coming out of my exhaust on start-up, even when the engine is warm. It doesn't smell like a rich mixture, it smell burnt. The mechanic told me that it's oil that was spiled , and it should be OK after a few days, but after 2 weeks, it still smells burnt, and there is still blue smoke

    Can anybody help me ?

    appreciate it

    Thx

ChrisCan transmission oil burn out of my exhaust?
tranny fluid can leak into exhaust...i had a ford pickup truck that the tranny modulator went bad the smoke was white and there was a lot,,,a real lot.....blue smoke is usually from bad rings or bad valve sealsCan transmission oil burn out of my exhaust?
If tranny is leaking, then any oil leaking out can be burned off by heat of engine and tranny casing. There's no way to have leaking tranny oil get into the exhaust system and burn blue smoke. It's like saying that having the ';runs'; in your gut causes you to cough. Two different systems.

Used to be a saying that white smoke in your exhaust was okay, but blue smoke meant trouble. Blue smoke in exhaust means that there's oil leaking into the spark plug chamber where the gas is being burned.

That's motor oil, not tranny oil. The seals on the spark plug chamber are getting worn, allowing the oil into where it is burned, and then goes out in the exhaust.

There's all kinds of good oil stop-leaks at Walmart, Checker Auto or Auto zone. Get one that's about $5 or more, it'll be better protection.

This is to add to the motor oil, it helps to seal small leaks so that the oil doesn't burn anymore, and hopefully can stop the blue smoke. But blue smoke has nothing to do with tranny fluid, whether it's leaking or not.
    No

Transmissions are not tied into the exhaust system. But leaks can get onto your exhaust and will smoke until burned off.

The blue smoke could be a number of things but if it always smokes then it sounds like your rings are allowing some oil to get into the cylinder. Fixing this would require ring replacement which if you decide you should just go ahead and rebuild it all. Expensive

Ifyou plan on keeping the car do the rebuild when it gets worse or if not try using a heavier weight oil.
If the transmission is vacuum operated, yes, this is possible. In this case, the trans uses engine vacuum from the intake manifold to shift gears.

Those days are long gone, though. About 15 years long gone.
    Impossible

How many different fluids need to be put into a chevy cavalier; oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid?

are these the only ones. It is a 2001, 2 door cavalier, I suspect a leak and want to buy all of the fluds to refill the car withHow many different fluids need to be put into a chevy cavalier; oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid?
Plus brake fluid and power steering fluid. And windshield washer solvent.

Check the owners manual to make sure you get the right type of fluid. How many different fluids need to be put into a chevy cavalier; oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid?
Antifreeze in radiator, oil in engine, transmission fluid in transmission, power steering fluid in power steering reservoir, lube in differential.
Oil, Transmission unless its a stick then it would take gear oil, brake, power steering, washer, radiator, differential oil. But you still need to find out what kind of leak it is, clean wherever the leak is if you can see it, then use a piece of cardboard and let it drip then you can get a more exact location.
Determine what type of fluid is leaking, then repair leak and refill as needed.

May also want to purchase power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid along with the fluids that you have listed above.
headlight fluid, muffler bearing lubricant, air bag lubricant

Where is the transmission oil pump on a 1989 olds cutlass supreme? is it inside the tranny?

also... does the pump make a whining noise when its not working right? or might it be the torque converterWhere is the transmission oil pump on a 1989 olds cutlass supreme? is it inside the tranny?
I'm not sure on this one but i think the torque converter is the pump. sometimes they just are noisy. good luckWhere is the transmission oil pump on a 1989 olds cutlass supreme? is it inside the tranny?
The transmission pump is in the front of the transmission and the torque converter drives it when the engine is running. A whining noise may be caused by poor condition fluid or a pump, I would service it before I pulled it. Good Luck and GOD Bless
i own a shop, and its in the very front of the transmission, and yes it will make a whining noise, but it will also do this if its low on fluid also,so check that, but if the front pump is going out it will whine all the time, even if its full of fluid,so you can take this by any good transmission shop ,and they can check it for you,i doubt that they will charge anything, any good transmission mechanic can tell you if its the pump or not, good luck hope this helps.
I own a yoyo, a daisy air rifle and a Gumby. The pump is inside the tanny. Check your fluid level.
need to know if 3 speed or 4 speed , FWD or RWD
The transmisson pump is built into the transmission. A whining noise in the transmission usually indicates low fluid level. Or even possibly even the end of your transmission's life.

  • What is the best transmission oil for a 2001 banshee 350?

    Best?

    My opinion,,,Belray Gear Saver,75w #93150

It's Gear Oil made for transmissions,

    clutches,gears,shift mechanisms,etc.

    Not Engine Oil,,made for valve tappets,plain bearing crankshafts,rocker arms,etc.

Motor oil is a fine compromise,,zillions of bike transmissions work as they are supposed to while running oil that isn't designed for transmissions.

So ya can't Really knock it,but...........

The junkiest swill you can pour thru the hole will work surprisingly well,,,to a degree....for a while.

If you really want something that will make a worthwhile improvement in Temp,Noise,Shift Quality,Wear Reduction,etc....

There's actually a variety of Excellent TRANSMISSION SPECIFIC oils out there,,,as well as additives.

Even automotive Automatic Transmission Fluid beats the living daylights out of ANY Engine Oil in a M/C gearbox.

Lots of people have never heard of that,,,thus it sounds Stupid to them.

They just never stop and think about the 2 different environments, and their components and operating requirements.

In Recent Years,,,Engine Oil has become so limp-wristed the Mfgrs have had to implement New components to their additive packages to keep engines from eating theirselves alive.

One result of that is SEVERAL Engine Oils have actually become ';Dangerous/Destructive'; to M/C gearboxes %26gt;Wet Clutches actually.

Bike/ATV Clutches are same materials as Auto Trans' have

Auto Trans run for 100,000 Mi without an oil change,,10,20.30 years or more.

Their Operation causes them to Run so Hot,,they Exchange Their heat with Engine radiator to COOL DOWN.

The entire time engine is running,,the TorqueConverter is Crushing the Oil.

The Gears are so small in even a 1 ton Truck ,,you can hold them all in your hand.

And the Clutches are not much bigger than an average 250cc m/c.

And after all that abuse,,,the ATF has to perform in Valves that function on 'Breath-weight'; pressure differentials thru a valve system with Less that .001'; Clearances,,,,and thru pin-hole orifices.

An Auto Trans wouldn't LIVE to get across Town on Engine oil.

Yet they work so reliably for YEARS on end with little or no maintenance,,,we often ';forget about them';.

A Substantial Degree of that Reliability is due directly to their use of ATF.

Nothing much Special or Exotic in their parts, materials.

    It's simply a matter of Superior Lubrication,,,ie ';plain ol' ATF';

    Anyway,,,for Motorcycle-Specific Trans Oil,,,

    My prefference is Belray.

If you cant find it conveniently in your area,,,

I'd strongly Suggest to at least find %26amp; chose

    a Motorcycle Transmission-Specific ,Synthetic lube.

    One outstanding exception to ,';Why Pour Engine Oil into a Gearbox when Real Gearbox Oil is available?';

    is Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 oil.

It does an outstanding job in that application.

    Mobil's 10w-40(Motorcycle Oil) is OK,,but I wouldn't deliberately chose it for a gearbox.

The 20w-50 is much better in that app.

Again,,,';bike'; gearboxes are Not real finicky about Oil.

And on top of that ,almost NONE are ridden/owned long enough to truly experience Full Benefits of Superior Lubes

So in reality,,almost Anything is ';good enough';,,,,and the Premium ,Specialty Lubes could be considered Overkill.

    But I'm with You on wanting to know ,,';What's BEST?';

The $2~3~4 Extra Cost buys a Bunch of Cheap Insurance,,and a Lot of Peace of Mind.

And the last thing ya gotta worry about is whether your Lube is Up To any task you can put to your ATV.

    $2 for ordinary stuff,

    vs

$6~8 for ';as good as it gets'; ???

In a Transmission /clutch that costs $100's++ to Repair?

So while Premium TRANS Oil may not be totally Necessary...

Overkill is OK with me,,Gimme the Good Stuff. What is the best transmission oil for a 2001 banshee 350?
you can probably find a million opinions on this subject but really, any good motor oil will work. just change oil at the recomended intervals.

What weight of Transmission/Gear oil should I use for my 1999 Polaris 500 ATV?

Not Engine Oil. Gear/Transmission oil. What weight of Transmission/Gear oil should I use for my 1999 Polaris 500 ATV?
Synthetic gear oil is what comes factory in these.

    Expensive stuff.

I have put regular 75-90 in mine and it worked out ok.

The front hubs need a special hub oil that is only available from Polaris.

How much dose it cost to change transmission oil?

i have a 92 toyota camry. i need to change transmission oil and was wondering how much it would cost me....? hopefully not too much.....How much dose it cost to change transmission oil?
Somewhere between $100 and $150. That is for a power flush. This will also change out the fluid in the torque converter. They will usually undo the transmission cooler lines and hook the machine in series with the cooler. The machine will be loaded with new fluid and you can actually see the old discolored come out and the new fluid going in. Once the fluid coming out turns reddish, then all of the fluid has been replaced and the cooling lines are reconnected and the topped off.

good luck with it.How much dose it cost to change transmission oil?
Automatic Transmission oil can cost as little as $1.50 per quart. What kind of AT do you have? Some ATs hold 7 to 10 quarts of AT Fluid. Some BMWs use a ';lifetime'; transmission fluid which costs $150 per quart. Some transmissions have a dip-stick to measure the AT Fluid level. You should make sure the car is on level ground, and that the existing AT Fluid is warmed up to at least 120 degrees F. With the engine running, you can add 1/2 quart of the appropriate AT Fluid until you see the level on the dipstick. Do not overfill. Many Auto Transmissions require that you change a filter screen in the AT Pan every 50,000 miles. A filter and 10 quarts of AT Fluid can cost $200. You should look in your Owner's Manual for complete instructions on your peculiar car.
Various auto shops have various prices. You're best bet is to go to a shop that specializes in transmissions. They usually offer a special deal wherein they check the transmission of any faults, change the oil, and change the filter and give a transmission tune-up for a one package fee. They are usually the best deal. Last time I had it done, it cost me $97.90. Good Luck.
why do you need to change it ??? has it done over 100k miles or is there a transmission problem, when the oil is changed it is only the oil in the sump that is changed, most of the oil is in the torque converter so if you do it yourself you will only be able to change the sump oil as they do in a garage
It matters on where you go to get it done.
    depends..........

What type of transmission oil should i put in a kx 125?

We use Castrol GTX..SAE 20W-50 and have been using it for years in our 2-strokes...We tested some other name brand oils and found that they were the same thing...You can get the Castrol at any auto parts store and even Walmart...It is way cheaper...I get it by the case...

We have never had a problem running it in our stock bikes and our big-bore bikes...

Take a close look at the work that you did. You may have left something unhooked or left a wire off somewhere. Especially around the starter circuits. good luck.

How can i differentiate between engine oil or transmission oil in ford expedition radiator water?

Engine oil would be blackish looking. Transmission fluid is reddish to a pink color. The only way trans fluid would end up in the radiator would be if you had a cooler line hookup crack at the radiator. Which is highly unlikely. How can i differentiate between engine oil or transmission oil in ford expedition radiator water?
Engine oil will appear dark gray or black in the radiator while Transmission fluid will appear slightly pink or red.How can i differentiate between engine oil or transmission oil in ford expedition radiator water?
as previously stated, engine oil will look black or yellow, (depending on how old it is) while trans fluid will be between pink /red and red/brown.

Trans fluid in the radiator is going to mean an internal leak in the radiator, while the enigne oil we have discussed previously...
check the engine oil and transmission oil to see if there is any milky stuff on the dipstick. Keep in mind that antifreeze + engine oil= super thick substance that will eventually result in bearings being starved for oil
Take a cup, pour it in the cup, set it down on the driveway and look at it. If it turns blue after a couple hours, it's what you were looking for. Have fun!
There are radiator cooler lines that may run through the bottom of the radiator. If the radiator is bad, you may see a lighter colored oily film, lighter than oil would be. Check you oil and tranny fluid for cross contamination, or low tranny fluid.

The viscosity of tranny fluid is lighter than oil.
transmission oil can't get into your radiator water.

Is CAT transmission oil compatible with CASE transmission oil in a D6M short term?

As long as there both manual transmissions``, they should take the same gear oil, There's know way that you could use transmission fluid in a manual transmission . Manual tranny take a real thick gear oil and the automatric takes a very thin fluid to run it,

What kind of transmission oil should i use in a Yamaha TT-R 125?

You should run a good motorcycle grade 10w/40. You can run regular car oils, but they are not designed to hold up to the stress of a motorcycle engine, so you need to change them more often. What kind of transmission oil should i use in a Yamaha TT-R 125?
you should always contact the dealership to ask for what types of fluids to run and is there any type of aftermarket lines that will cross reference in emergency... And Yamaha has one of the best line-up in the industry's as other manufactures run there oil's. Like how GM advice to run Mobil 1 in a Corvette...

Very hard to remove 100%. I would start with a concentrated degreaser like the purple stuff made by Zep sold at Home Depot in gallons. Spray it on full strength wait a few minutes and scrub with a brush then rinse. It will probably take a few attempts over a few days to really get it out.I have a nice brick driveway, there are light stains of transmission and oil stains. How do I remove?thanks?
oxyclean works well for this and is very safe for the surface.
Aply some varsol with a brush ,scrub then wash with soap and water rinse clean
Try Lestoil,It works very well!!! But you may have 2 do it a few times! You could also try Coca Cola!!! But the Lestoil is the best in my opinion!!

How do you know when your manual transmission gear oil is low?

    I have a

92 honda accord lxHow do you know when your manual transmission gear oil is low?
you have to get underneath the car and take the plug out and stick your finger in the fill hole and see if you can feel fluid. How do you know when your manual transmission gear oil is low?
I guess what I would tell you is to do preventative maintenance and then you wouldn't ask this question. Every time you change oil, you unscrew the upper plug and see if you can touch the oil, sometimes I put a piece of wire in it to see if it touches the oil and if I see it on the piece of wire, its probably ok. But keep in mind this is a preventative measure, not after the fact thing.
If I remember correctly, there should be two square-headed plugs, one above the other. The bottom one is a drain, the top one (about halfway up) is the fill plug. Take out the top plug and pump transmission oil into it until it starts running out.
    You physically check the level.

Any other symptom of low manual transmission oil, such as grinding, squealing, humming or other unusual noises may well be too late !
YOU DON'T UNLESS YOU CHECK THE LEVEL. TO DO THIS IS TO TAKE OUT THE OIL AND COMPARE IT WITH WHAT THE USER'S MANUAL INDICATES.
    when you shift, it grinds.

    3
five quarts in the transmission and three in the convertor
If your asking about trans. fluid its 6 on a 4 cyl.
Hard to say for sure as you never get it all out of the torque converter. Best way is to keep track of what comes out then check dip stick after the refill.

i do not find them that difficult by i do them at work also along with rebuilding them at home so i know what to expect and what to avoid. really that is not a bad price for the service, as long as labor is included. on a manual transmission there is far less to worry about with services. in an automatic, after several miles, like 75000 or more you could run into a problem if you change the fluid out at that point. in a stick not a whole lot can go wrong in that situation.Should I have my transmission oil changed after 40,000 miles?
You can do it yourself. Get a kit that included a new gasket and filter. Be careful and use jackstands it you have to raise the car to get under it.
no, never. it only makes it so you have to then change it every 40,000. if you never change it, you'll never have to change it
It its a manual its easy with drain plug and fill plug, if its an auto its 30 percent harder and you need to change a filter on autos.
I would change ur oil it is recomended every 12 to 15 thousand miles
follow manufactuor recommendation and you wil be safe, but you can do it yourself alot cheaper

Is motor oil and transmission oil the same on a dirt bike?

    DEF

Motor oil is used for lubrication of your motor internals and for cooling.

This is generaly a multi grade oil.

Motor oil for two stroke should be a sae 30w15 or the equivalent.

    Transmition oil is used in automatic gearbox aplication to run a fluid drive. this is not a lubricating oil. DO NOT USE IN MOTOR%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

Ask any shop that sells oil to give you advice on their specific make of oil to suit your needsIs motor oil and transmission oil the same on a dirt bike?
It depends on what type of bike you have, in general, for a 4 stroke, it is combined into just one type of oil. Some bikes have seperate tranny and motor oils, like the Honda CRF 250 and 450's. You would just have to check if theres more than one filler holes on your engine.

  • Is there such thing as transmission oil that doesn't contain any seal oil?

    Yes. Its synthetic oil.

Which kind of seal are you talking about?

You mean like a live, flipper flappin seal?

Or an oil than contains something that protects the transmission seals? Is there such thing as transmission oil that doesn't contain any seal oil?
i dont know,i dont imagine anybody would like an oily seal.....a wet walrus would be kinda cute thoughIs there such thing as transmission oil that doesn't contain any seal oil?
I've never heard of one that did. Where are you getting this idea from? I'm curious.
    not that i no off

Is it risky to change manual transmission oil?

various mechanics told me when i had my automatic honda civic that it was very risky to change the transmission oil because they done it before and after that they wouldnt move. So I would like to know if changing the manual transmission would be that risky too. They told me its risky only when the oil its really burned. Is it risky to change manual transmission oil?
No it is not risky to change the manual trans lube. In fact, it should be done every so often; your owners manual will specify an interval when it should be done.

Only a hand-full of cars have 'lifetime' oils in transmissions or axles. Is it risky to change manual transmission oil?
They are correct. If the auto tranny had very old fluid it would contain particles of the clutches.(from wear and tear they brake down) meaning that when new fluid is put in, the old fluid would be washed out and their would not be enough material in the fluid to cause the clutches to engage. You would notice slipping between shifts or no movement at all. In a sense the lose particles would help the warn clutches. In a man. tranny you do not need to worry about that fact.
Oh, for heaven's sake, change it! It should be changed occasionally to remove as much of the metal particles held in the oil from synchro wear.

Just ensure you refill with the correct oil, and to the correct level.

    Get on with it!
its not risky if you change it on regular schedules

    but, manual transmissions last forever

could probably never change the fluid
heck no it,s not risky. i did it several times when i had a manuel truck.

Cost to have transmission oil and filter changed in a 1994 gmc sierra 1500 with the 4l60e trans???

It has been slipping quit a bit when accelerating so I think its about time to have a flush and filter change. What is the average to have it done at a shop??And if I decided to do it myself how much for the parts and how difficult would it be??Cost to have transmission oil and filter changed in a 1994 gmc sierra 1500 with the 4l60e trans???
Chances are that a fluid and filter change will not help if your slipping. That is a sign of a trans thats going bad. You can still try it at home. I do my car at the house every year. The prices are all different for different transmissions. If you do try it yourself, do NOT overtighten the bolts. They will strip out easily. It's just a matter of a big enough pan to catch the old fluid. Drop the pan, scrap all traces of old gasket from the pan and transmission. Remove filter, some just pull out some are secured by screws. I believe yours pulls right out. Replace with new filter, slap the gasket up on the pan and tighten the bolts to specified torque. Gasket sealer is not needed.Cost to have transmission oil and filter changed in a 1994 gmc sierra 1500 with the 4l60e trans???
this usually runs anywhere from a 100-150 bucks depending on where you have it done, most places now are charging around 125 for this ,it being a 4 wheel drive doesn't affect this job too much, some shops are getting away with charging a lot more because most people cant do this job at home, good luck.
tHE PLACE BY MY HOUSE CHARGES $99.00.

How many quarts transmission gear oil do you need for a 1995 ford f150 5 speed transmission?

How do u change the transmission oil on a 97 4x4 chevy blazer?

you have to unbolt the pan on the bottom of the tranny ( very messy job ) and drain it and then change the tranny filter under the pan , put a new gasket on the pan and reinstall and fill the transmission. How do u change the transmission oil on a 97 4x4 chevy blazer?
Assuming it's an automatic, remove the bolts holding the oil pan to the transmission. When they get loose enough, the fluid will start running out around the sides. When the fluid stops running carefully remove the bolts and lower the pan. You will see the filter attached to the valvebody. Remove the filter and be sure the tube seal comes out of the bore with it. If not, remove it before installing new filter. Install new gasket on pan and install pan on tranny. Fill tranny with fliud to proper level and that's it.

What is the difference between automatic transmission oil and oil used in a manual tranmission?

It depends on the transmission. Automatic transmissions are fluid-drive (hydraulic) units that require oil that is highly resistant to heat and that lubricates valves, etc at high pressures and temperatures. For this reason the oil is fairly thin and watery. Manual transmissions are not hydraulically operated and thus need an oil that actually lubricates bearings, gears, syncronizers, shift rails, etc. There are actually some manual transmissions that are engineered to use ATF (automatic transmission fluid).

What are the dangers of pouring transmission oil where motor oil goes?

Sure, it'll clean out your engine. It will also ruin the gaskets and possibly seize the motor since it doesn't have anywhere near the protection factor the parts need. Hydraulic fluid and oil are two completely different things. What are the dangers of pouring transmission oil where motor oil goes?
well how does a complete thermal breakdown in the engine block sound...expensive?What are the dangers of pouring transmission oil where motor oil goes?
You could ruin your engine! It is not formulated to go in your engine!
dangerous.. i use to work at this auto shop.. and this lady did that, and we had to flush the engine out like i 4got how many times.. but it was a lot... . i think it is because the weight of the engine oil is different then the transmission oil and this will cause a lot of problems..
Huge dangers, the oil is drastically different. If this happened DO NOT attempt to start the engine. Have it taken to a reputable service center. It could very easily destroy your engine. Transmission temps are higher, however transmission oil does not contain the proper protectants, inhibitors, or required additives. It is thicker; could damage the oil pump, bearings, and more. Bottom line: it's bad!
Chad, Trans fluid is fine for a short period of time do not loose sleep over it. Trans fluid is great for hydraulic lifters and overall cleanliness of your motor. I would however get it changed with the correct oil within 500 miles because it does not change viscosity ratings in an efficiently running motor.
there are no dangers, actually transmission fluid cleans out your engine, just drain it out and put oil back in it, it will probably smoke alot until the transmission fluid burns out, after the smoke has cleared, change your oil again, don't forget to replace your filter because it can still contain some transmission fluid.

I drove my 2002 Nissan Altima without transmission oil for about 4 miles what are the consequences??

I took my 2002 Nissan Altima to a local dealership for a regular motor oil change. The mecanic drain my transmission oil instead of motor oil and overfill the motor oil. I ran the car for about 4 miles without knowing the car did noy had transmission fluid, what are the consequences and what can the dealership do to resolve the problem??? thanks..I drove my 2002 Nissan Altima without transmission oil for about 4 miles what are the consequences??
Take your car to a different dealership and have them check it out. I assume that something brought the error to your attention such as drivability problems.I drove my 2002 Nissan Altima without transmission oil for about 4 miles what are the consequences??
depends was it easy driving or hard stop go city....?? shouldnt be too bad i wouldnt think just dont go out agian with out it.
it pretty much will only destroy your transmition if you keep driving with no trans fuid and if what your saying about the mechanic is true than the dealership should give you the trans fluid for free
    none
A standard trany would probally be ok an automatic wouldn't shift if it was empty

    I do.

How about synthetic transmission oil etc?

Synthetic is supposed to last longer and not ';thin out'; as quickly. How about synthetic transmission oil etc?
it is a matter of personal choice.. there are a million studies that contradict one another about the debate between conventional and synthetic oils.. so it is basically what you want to use, some people swear by one brand while others swear by another, its just a matter of personal preference

How do i check my manual transmission oil on a 2004 ford wrangler?

will be a plug on side of trans.. most of time square head you remove plug stick little finger in hole if you touch oil its good if it comes out hole its good also check rear end same way also type how to check maunal transmission wil get you a know to most car repairs you can find by typing how to name of part name of car add video to end sometimes gets one but you check all manuals and rear ends thru a plug on side of them really easy wil be like half way up side or center of can be on either side but most are on right sideHow do i check my manual transmission oil on a 2004 ford wrangler?
manual shift (stick shift) trannies don't have dip sticks. Some new auto trannies (Like my audi) don't have dipsticks either. If there's no dipstick, there's usually a electronic sensor and/or a glass window that must be inspected from UNDER THE CAR / TRUCK.

    Good luck...
There may be a plug on the side of the transmission. The fluid should be up to the bottom of the hole.

Whoops, transmission oil instead of engine oil. What should I do?

What are the differences between transmission and engine oil? What consequences will come from running a car running a mix of engine\transmission oil?Whoops, transmission oil instead of engine oil. What should I do?
Viscosity and formula. ATF has all kinds of corrosion inhibitors and sperm whale oil in it. Motor oil is oil and detergent. ATF may not harm the engine but motor oil will harm a transmission. Have it changed out asap.Whoops, transmission oil instead of engine oil. What should I do?
how much tranny oil did you put in the engine?
Engine oil is for engines and transmission oil is for transmissions, drain the engine/transmission,change the filter and run it,the engine might exhaust smoke and the transmission might or might not work...........Good luck...
drain it out, after replacing oil and filter, let it run for awhile because its going to smoke
hello i may be able to help you if you put a litre of tranny oil in with 3 or 4 litres of engine oil its ok your engine will be nice and clean inside! tranny oil has good cleaning capability's but you don't want to put engine oil in tranny that's not good . hope it helP's

ps even two litres is ok
It shouldn't hurt anything but it will definitely help clean the lubrication passages and the inside of your engine. Drain and refill with a new filter and you should be okay.
pull the pan and dran it and get a new filter then just put more in it it sould be fine

How much do I have to pay to get a transmission and oil gasket replaced on a 2002 dodge grand caravan?
