Can you put a quart of Transmission oil with your oil to clean out gunk inside engine, is this true?

A mechanic I worked with told me, if you mix 1 quart of tranny oil with the rest of the quarts of oil when changing, it would clean out gunk and dirt in engine, I am wondering if this is true and if not would it harm engine. Can you put a quart of Transmission oil with your oil to clean out gunk inside engine, is this true?
No problem if you used it to flush the crankcase just prior to oilchanging. The stuff marketed for flushing engines is much thinner than ATF ( Mechanic's Engine Flush) and is more effective in cutting sludge and other crud to drain out of your engine- and cheaper than ATF. A 5 minute flush with ATF is harmless. Just don't put the engine under load with either of those solvents.

If ATF was so bad, transmissions wouldn't last a week running it under pressure over gears, bands, and bearings, and a few hundred degrees F temperature. Can you put a quart of Transmission oil with your oil to clean out gunk inside engine, is this true?
Well, Mobile who sells both oil and transmission fluid answers the question this way:

Question:

Does Inadvertently Adding Transmission Fluid to Oil Cause Problems?

What happens if you accidentally add Mobil 1 synthetic transmission multi-vehicle formula to a car that has Mobil 1 oil? Will I screw up the engine? I accidentally added one quart to my car.

Answer:

It is unlikely that you will cause any damage with this mistake, but since the transmission fluid is a light viscosity, you need to check your oil level. We suggest you change the oil as soon as you get a chance just to be on the safe side.
thats a lot of bull pappy-maybe back in the late 40-S or early 50-S they messed around with that/ now with hi detergent oil and unleaded gas and the laser guided computer built engines that type of stuff will dilute your oil and damage your engine(not enough viscosity and lubricant in trans oil for an engine
Used ot do that to clean the dust out of our old bombers (circle track).ATF has a high detergent but is very bad for your bearings. We would run the motor till warm then drain. Our street cars didn't get misused like that.ATF is a straight 5 wt.Your better off with a product that is made to clean your oil journals.
