How many quarts of transmission oil?

how many quarts of transmission oil does a ford f150 automatic 1997 4.6 liter v8 need ? i just changed the filter.How many quarts of transmission oil?
have at least 6 qts. handy and put 4 in and then just start engine and let warm up and work the shift lever a few times and check the level and add as necessary.How many quarts of transmission oil?
usualy about 5 to6
It should say in the owner's manual. If you are without one call your local Ford dealership and ask to talk to somebody in the garage and they'll be able to tell you in a second.
If you did not drain the torque convertor (there is a small plug on it) it will likely take 5 or 6 quarts. Dont fill it to the full mark until you get the transmission hot. It will expand close to a Quart with the total volume that is in the transmission (about 12 or 13 quarts) when at normal operating temperature. Dont overfill it.
