What transmission oil do i use for my 1999 VW Passat GLS 4 cylinder?

i bought a used car and i dont have a owners manualWhat transmission oil do i use for my 1999 VW Passat GLS 4 cylinder?
All wrong answers: you must obtain the fluid at your local VW-Audi dealership. It's a special fluid that runs between 14-22 per quart to purchase (depending upon dealership). Put the wrong the fluid in and you'll probably cause the transmission to shift oddly at best, at worst, destroy the internals.

Hope this helps, a car nut. What transmission oil do i use for my 1999 VW Passat GLS 4 cylinder?
Look on your transmission's dip stick. The type of transmission oil you need should be stamped on it.

If not when you go to buy transmission fluid go to an automotive parts house and ask one of the associates what type you need.

You can also purchase a manual there as well that covers types of oil and fluids as well as a lot of repairs up to and including engine rebuild.
call a local vdub dealer to find out the proper kind it could be one of two..

1- generic kind you could buy at any parts house

2- the good stuff only able to purchase from the dealer its synthetic type,

for your pocket books sake hope its the first one and never take it all out and replace it all new your dub will never run the same the bands are self adjusting in the trans and adjust to the fluid so if it is really thin as new fluid is the trans will not adjust back only as it thickens
i believe it's Dexron III

VW only uses a long life antifreeze, Pentosin p/n: G0012000

sold by the litre!
