Can you tell automatic transmission oil is bad?

my auto tech guy did a tranny service today and said the oil was fine. can you tell red colored tranny oil is fine by smell and visual? Can you tell automatic transmission oil is bad?
Bad oil will smell BURNED, like putting a match to a cork.

However, you can never really tell the condition of a trans oil by its color....you can tell if it's really bad, but you can't tell if it is molecularly sound just by looking at it.

Same for engine oil. Color alone is nothing to rely on. You need an oil analysis to see what's up and if the oil is fatigued.

I'd go by mileage, not color. Can you tell automatic transmission oil is bad?
Take out the dip stick and put some oil from it on your fingers.

You can smell if the oil is burnt or not fresh any more.

If you are brave enough, You can also taste a little, ( DO NOT SWALLOW ) , and you will taste the burnt oil or if it is fresh.

When servicing an auto trans you need to drop the oilpan to change filters or make any adjustment, so I don,t know if your man serviced it or what. He may have said that it doesn't need doing doing yet.!
Its going to smell worse than usual and the color is going to be more brownish than red.
Check for cunks of clutch luiner in it and smell to see if it smells burnt.
